Every now and then something might not work correctly on your musical equipment. Whether it is an alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, flute, clarinet, guitar, ukulele, piano keyboard, or other instrument, regular and routine maintenance is very important in preventing major issues that could arise in the middle of an audition or gig! Today I took out my Selmer Mark VI alto saxophone and knew immediately that something was wrong with it. Having experience with issues like this over the years, I was able to quickly identify the problem. My high F side key was stuck open and allowing air to leak out from the upper portion of the instrument. I was able to push down the key and keep playing, but this issue required a trip to the repairman for sure. Apparently the screws were binding the rod in place, keeping the key open. I'm glad to say that it is now fixed and playing better than ever! My alto saxophone is from 1972 and proper maintenance has kept this instrument playing in great shape for the past 47 years!
