Reed Positioning
Always make sure your reed is in exactly the same place every time you put it on the mouthpiece. Also check that your ligature (the metal piece that holds the reed flush with the mouthpiece) is tight. Often times students position the reed where it is sticking out too much or not set up close enough to the tip of the mouthpiece. Although there are personal artistic variations, setting up the reed exactly at the tip of the mouthpiece produces the most consistent and reliable tone.
